We are Planet Passionate

Planet Passionate is an ambitious 10-year global sustainability strategy designed to address three major global challenges: climate change, circularity and the protection of our natural world.
Planet Passionate is our 10-year global sustainability strategy that aims to impact three major global issues: climate change, circularity and protecting our world.

The world is facing significant social and environmental challenges. The UN Emissions Gap Report 2019 highlights that we are now on the brink of missing the opportunity to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by the end of this century. Collectively, through commitments, policies and action we must now deliver a 7.6% emissions reduction every year between 2020 and 2030. Transformational action, at scale, across all sectors, is urgently needed.

We are determined to align with the 1.5 °C pathway and are taking real action, in our business operations through our Planet Passionate programme and through our products by enabling low energy, low carbon buildings that use natural, sustainable resources, such as solar and water.

The construction and operation of buildings account for 36% of global energy use, 39% of energy-related CO₂ emissions and is responsible for ca. 30% of all waste to landfill globally. Clearly, there is still a long way to go to make the construction and operation of buildings more sustainable and Planet Passionate is about playing our part in making that happen.

Here’s what we’ve done so far

PV Rooftop System Boosts On-Site Energy Generation and Reduces CO2 Emissions at Plant

The PV rooftop system represents a significant advancement in on-site energy generation and reduction of CO2 emissions. The system has potential to generate up to 20% of the plant's electricity and can also support the newly-installed heat pump too.

Geothermal Heat Pump System Maximizes Plant's Waste Heat for Winter and Off-Peak Use

The AmbiHeat geothermal heat pump system utilizes waste heat from the plant's production and stores it in underground wells for use in winter and on non-production weekends.

heat-pump

Together, the PV system and heat pump heating system will produce 1.5 GWh of energy annually, equating to 33% of on-site energy generation for the Parainen site. This will also increase the overall on-site generation ratio for the entire Eastern and Central European sandwich panel division by 3%.

Lower Carbon Buildings

The Global Warming Potential (GWP) is now provided for all AST® products

The GWP value defines global warming potential relative to CO₂ and is extremely important when comparing building manufacturers and materials, as well as for designing and building projects with the lowest possible carbon footprint
