Såma AB

Såma is a shop and workshop specialising in forest and garden machinery that was founded in 1970. Both professional and private customers trust the company with the installation and testing of their machinery and equipment, among other things. The company offers a wide range of accessories and stocks the most common spare parts.

The Såma project consisted of renovating and adding secondary insulation to the existing service workshop and extending the shop premises. The client wanted to create a modern building with smooth minimalist facades together with a showroom offering height and space. The showroom would also have a large glazed exterior facing the road.
Reface, Paroc’s brand new renovation element, was perfect for the Såma project. Being able to conduct business as normal during the renovation and extension work was highly appreciated. The work was performed over winter 2015–2016 and was completed at the end of May 2016.

Såma was given a cutting-edge look – stands out in Boländerna

Uppsala’s largest retail park is located in the Boländerna area of the city. It houses a number of well-known retail businesses such as IKEA, Bauhaus, Biltema, Jula, Plantagen, Elgiganten, Media Markt and Beijer.

Såma is located on Bolandsgatan, one of Uppsala’s busiest streets. The renovation work, fitting secondary insulation in the company’s workshop and shop extension work all began in autumn 2015. The turnkey contractor was local family company AB Lindborg & Söner. Per Lindborg was given the assignment to design the new Såma.

"It was a challenge. The properties are located close to the street and competition is tough. The customer requested something visible, which would ideally stand out. The existing building dates from 1982 and is a simple “cube” construction with brown/rust brown facades in corrugated sheeting. The type of building that doesn’t signify anything special. Only the sign indicated the type of business being conducted inside."

Large glass panels and new facade using Reface

AB Lindborg & Söner chose to work with a lot of glass. Focus was obviously placed on displaying Såma’s products so they could be seen clearly, even from a distance.

Per Lindborg, AB Lindborg & Söner:
"Using large panes of glass tilted in two directions, almost like the keel of a boat, gives the building a distinctive appearance. It also felt natural to freshen up the older section – both in terms of appearance so that it worked well with the extension and in consideration to energy. The customer went for the concept in its entirety. Paroc’s new product, Reface, was ideal for use in the project. We have a long tradition of working with Paroc.

"When we received a request to test the new renovation element, we said ‘yes’ and the result has been extremely positive. It’s perfect for use on old industrial premises in need of freshening up and secondary insulation", says Per Lindborg

Paroc is satisfied with the new product, which, in addition to industrial buildings, is also ideal for buildings used for trade, offices, warehouses and sports.

”The existing facade consisted of TRP sheeting, both on the inside and outside. The walls were poorly insulated. The windows, doors and gates were old. The showroom had a small glazed exterior with little space or ceiling height.

Mikael Vestermark has several strong arguments for using Reface:
”Quick installation, when adding a new extension, secondary insulation can also be added to the existing building to give it the same appearance, existing walls can be ventilated by applying thermology in the air ducts, and the product is also a good environmental choice as it is constructed of stone and steel which can be recycled. Reface is also non-combustible (most fires start outside the walls).”
